This CD is dedicated to my little brother, Milton, whom I love with all my heart. He is well acquainted with trouble!
I spend a lot of time tumbling into and out of trouble. I wish I could avoid it, but somehow it always finds me. All of the responsible adults in my life keep telling me to keep away from trouble. The trouble is that it is often hard to identify trouble until I get good and deep inside of it. I always manage to get taken in by the Tar Baby. I am a sucker for the flatterer and I inevitably tell the wolf how to get to Grandma’s house. Well, what do you want? If there were no troubles, there would be no stories and no storytellers.

These stories are featured on Donna's story collection, 'Troubling Trouble’. It is a collection of tales from all around the world about getting into trouble as well as getting out of it. It is family friendly and great for all ages. Each digital story can be downloaded three times.
The stories featured are:

1. "Brother Sun and Sister Moon" - 9:20

This story comes from West Africa. I read this in a collection of tales some years ago, and then I heard it told by several tellers. I discovered that there were Native American versions of this story as well as a Caribbean version. I have no doubt there are many other versions of which I know nothing. It is about the perils of excessive pride and stubbornness.

3. "The Monkey's Heart" - 7:25

This story comes from Africa and India. I’ve heard numerous versions of this tale. This is my own compilation based on four different versions from both African and India. It’s about crocodile tears and quick thinking.

5."Brer Possum and the Frogs" - 15:17

This is an African American tale. Of all the versions of this tale I’ve heard, Willa Brigham yells the one that speaks most eloquently to me. It is no surprise that she credits Jackie Torrence with the original version.

2. "Brer Possum and the Snake" - 9:47

This story is an African American folktale. I heard a version of this tale many years ago from Jackie Torrence and realized it was also a theme I heard from my grandmother. Thank you, Jackie and Grandma Esther for this gift. This is a tale about what happens when you trouble with trouble.

4. "How the Animals Got Rain" - 12:31

This story comes from Africa. This is a version of the Bojabi story that I learned from Baba Jamal Koram the Story Man. I set this tale in Africa because that’s how I learned it, but I have heard many other versions where it could be just about anywhere.

6."Anansi and the Hat Shaking Dance" - 9:20

This story comes from West Africa. No story collection about trouble would be complete without at least one Anansi story. Here is one I learned in college back in the day when I was still trying to figure out what storytelling was.
